Why is it called BLAST?
BLAST stands for Balanced Level of Aerobic/Anaerobic and Strength Training. Everything you need in just 60 minutes for a total-body workout. Oh, and it’s a BLAST.

What is a HIIT class?
While we are all about the community, the fun, and the awesomeness of working out at BLAST, we are also very much about the science. High Intensity Interval Training (“HIIT”) is an exercise strategy that alternates periods of intense exercise with brief recovery periods. HIIT training is the most efficient and effective way to build muscle, lose weight and improve your cardiovascular system. You will be burning calories and blasting fat long after your workout is over.

How do I sign up for class?
You can book classes online, you can download our free app and sign up on-the-go, you can email us, you can call us, or you can just stop by the front desk when you are at the studio and they will help you sign up. Whatever is easiest for you!

Do I need to create an account online first?
Yes, so you can become a part of the family! It's easy stuff: name, address, email, electronic waiver and your credit card information to keep on file so you can get started right away.

I'm pregnant/I just had a baby - can I take this class?
We love this question and we love our mommas and mommas-to-be! We pride ourselves on the fact that we designed this program with every fitness level in mind. Whether you’re pregnant, or just had a baby, you can go at your own pace. Your instructor will be right there guiding you through the safest, most effective workout for you during every trimester and after delivery!

I pulled my hamstring a couple months ago - which instructor should I take?
One word: MODIFICATIONS. We offer and coach modifications for every move you make during every class. Hamstring, shoulder, back injury...they happen; and if you’re that person that just isn’t going to quit, we will be right beside you getting you through it, move-by-move and step-by-step. Every instructor is trained for these modifications and to correct your form. If they’re on our roster, they’re good. Real good. We promise.

How many calories will I burn in class?
Calories isn’t our favorite word at BLAST because no two people are the same. The only way to truly know how many calories YOU will burn in a class, or anywhere you exercise, is to have your BLAST Profile done.

How old do you have to be to take a BLAST class?
Yes, we know, you want to bring your kids, your nephews, your nieces, your neighbor's kids because BLAST is so amazing. To protect growing bodies, you must be 16 years old to take a class. 16 and 17 year olds need a parent to sign their waiver. Check with one of our Client Experience Team members to make sure you’re good to go before the start of your first class.

It's my first class, which one should I take?
Your first class should be whichever one fits your schedule the best. Each and every BLAST class utilizes the interval method. You will always get 30 total minutes of cardio on the treadmill and 30 minutes of full-body strength training on the floor. Go ahead and choose your first class, sign up, and get ready to change your life in 60 minutes!

Can I reserve my treadmill/floor spot?
Not at this time, but you are getting the same 60 minutes of BLAST no matter what!

Do I have to do the floor and treadmill workout?
You want to do 60 minutes of one or the other? You’re crazy! But, if it happens the class is not full, you are more than welcome to do double tread or double floor.

Do you have locker rooms?
Yes! We have everything you need from showers, towels, shampoo and conditioner to hair dryers, bobby pins and so on. You get the gist.

Is there a warm-up and stretch period within the class time?
There is a dynamic warm-up at the beginning of each class, including stretching, to get your body ready to move until the clock hits 0:00. At the end of class we always do a static stretch of every muscle group which is so important after a workout like this. No stone left unturned. No muscle left unworked or unstretched. The most complete, full-body workout you can get for just an hour out of your day.

What do I need to wear?
Number one priority: good running/walking shoes. Wear whatever you are most comfortable working out in, whatever you like to sweat in, just make sure it’s clean. You know that person that wears their workout clothes two days in a row or washes them in hand soap? Not that.

How early should I arrive for class?
We take “60 minutes” very seriously at BLAST. Barbara Walters serious. We have a countdown clock that starts the moment the class begins. Please arrive 15 minutes before class if you’ve never BLASTed before so we can educate you about safety, procedures, teach you how to use your locker, introduce you to your instructor and assistant and get you ready to rock before that clock starts!

What do I do when I first arrive to the studio?
Upon arrival to the studio the first thing that you should do is check in at the front desk where a member of our Client Experience Team will get you signed in and walk you through the studio.

Do I have to wear a heart rate monitor/is it provided?
Well, here's the deal, if you've had your Profile done then you won't even ask this question. You do not have to wear one, but if you are educated on why you should and how to use it, you will. We do not provide them, but we sell them in the studio.

Should I eat before and after class?
You should always get something in your stomach before you do any exercise! Eating something small about an hour before class is recommended so you can digest. After class, you’re going to want to also eat something easily digestible like a smoothie or yogurt, not a cheeseburger. Our Registered Dieticians offer services that include great coaching and guidance on this topic and all things nutrition!

We didn’t want to write this any more than you want to read it, but give it a skim so we’re all on the same page and everyone is happy!

What is the late cancel policy?
Reservations may be cancelled online, through our app ("BLASTLife" in the app store) or by calling the studio at least 8 hours prior to the start of class. If you cancel within the 8 hour window prior to the start of class, you will be charged a Late Cancel Fee. There are no exceptions.

If you do not cancel prior to the 8 hour Late Cancel window, you will be charged for a single class.

Clients with an Unlimited package will be charged the price of a single class to the credit card on file.

Clients with a series package will have a class pulled from their account.

Can I switch classes?
You may switch classes only if you are doing so outside of the 8 hour window of the class you are currently signed up for. Doing so within the 8 hour window will mean you are within our Late Cancel Policy and you will be charged a Late Cancel Fee based on your package.

What if I am late to class?
We know sometimes you are going to run late, things happen. Here is what you do: put your studio number in your phone. If you are an active package holder and you know you are going to be late (late means 5 minutes before class time), then call us and let us know and we will hold your spot. Class Pass clients are considered late once class begins. If you do not call or show up, we will assume you got stuck at work, in traffic, in a meeting, and you are terribly sad, but you will forfeit your spot to a waitlist or walk-in client and the late cancel policy will kick in.  Capiche? Capiche.

How far in advance can I reserve a class?
Clients may sign up for class as far in advance as their package will allow.

May I walk in to class?
You may. However, like all fine establishments, there is a good chance without a reservation you won’t find a seat at the table (or rather an empty tread). Moral of the story - make a reservation if you can, but walk-in clients are always welcome. Please check in at the front desk to ensure space availability. If the class is full, you will be added to the waitlist based on arrival time.

The waitlist is first come first serve!

What if I miss my class?
Bummer! You’re bummed you missed it, we’re bummed you missed it, the person who couldn’t get into that class because there were no spots left is bummed they missed it. If you miss a class, our Late Cancel Policy kicks in and you are charged based on your package.

What is the BLASTLife CREW?
The BLASTLife CREW is a community that Connects Results, Expertise and Wellness. The CREW membership includes either unlimited classes, or an automatically renewing pack of classes. Also included in this membership is a Fitness Assessment that measures your individual metabolic baseline. Becoming a member of the BLASTLife CREW unlocks access to all the tools you need to achieve your goals and the ultimate BLAST experience!

Why do I need a Fitness Assessment (FA)?
The FA is designed to make the time and energy you spend improving your nutrition and fitness as efficient as possible. Knowing your individual metabolic baseline takes all the guesswork and assumptions out of your training and allows you to see, feel and know it’s producing the results you desire.

Why is the Fitness Assessment Effective?
IT’S PERSONAL. Everything is completely based around your body and how it functions from a physiological standpoint. Having the intricate and accurate information will allow you to train with purpose and intention while avoiding unnecessary fatigue, wasted time, lackluster results or injury.

What is my Metabolic Baseline and why does it matter?
The Fitness Assessment includes the following and is used to establish your metabolic baseline:

  • Your RMR (Resting Metabolic Rate)
    • Shows how many calories you burn in a resting state (i.e. just sitting on the couch)
  • Your Metabolic Heart Rate Assessment (Anaerobic Threshold + VO2 Max)
    • Identifies your precise target heart rate zones so you can exercise more effectively with less fatigue and potential for injury

*Your RMR and your Metabolic Heart Rate Assessment are both critical pieces of information when determining a personalized fitness or nutrition regime!

What is a "Personalized Cardio Prescription"?
Heart rate training based 100% on your unique physiology and goals!

What is Metabolic VO2 Testing and how does it work?
The initials VO2 simply stand for volume of oxygen. In layman’s terms, how much oxygen you consume is directly proportional to how many calories you burn. VO2 Testing measures oxygen uptake during an active test, and can tell us exactly how well and at what intensities your body burns fat.

Will I be able to breathe with the mask on?
YES. During the Active VO2 Test, done on a treadmill, the face mask covers both the nose and mouth and allows for easy breathing through both.

Will I lose weight?
Each Fitness Assessment includes a discussion of your personal health and fitness goals. The discussion is the beginning of the customization process and lets us know if your goals are improving performance, better endurance, better muscle tone, more strength, weight loss, weight gain, reducing body fat, or simply learning how to maintain a healthy exercise routine.

How do I schedule a Fitness Assessment?
Any member of our team can assist you in scheduling your Fitness Assessment. Please stop by the front desk, give us a call, or shoot us an email!

How long will the test take?
The entire appointment is one hour. The RMR and VO2 tests will take 12 minutes each.

Can I workout the day of my Fitness Assessment?
It’s highly recommended to avoid strenuous exercise or any activity that may result in tired or sore muscles the day before and day of your appointment.

Are my results private?
Your results are uniquely yours and shared with no one else.

How often should I do a follow-up?
The more frequently you perform heart rate training (HRT) workouts, the sooner we suggest scheduling a follow up. We recommend a 3-month follow-up if you HRT 3x or less per week and a 6-week follow-up if you HRT 4x or more per week.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule my appointment?
Appointments may be cancelled or rescheduled by emailing or calling the studio at least 12 hours prior to the appointment start time. If you cancel within the 12 hour window prior to your appointment, or you do not show up, you will be charged a $40 Late Cancel Fee.
